LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for managing and improving the training infrastructure for the site. This role ensures that training processes are effectively implemented, tracked, and sustained, and that employees are equipped with the necessary skills to perform their roles safely and efficiently. The role will lead efforts to develop trainers and qualifiers, maintain current training content and records, and update key performance indicators (KPIs) and skills proficiency matrices. Support HR Department activities including employee support and engagement activities.

Responsibilities:

Training KPI Management

- Monitor, analyze, and update training-related KPIs to reflect progress and identify areas for improvement.

- Prepare and present quarterly/yearly reports on training effectiveness and compliance with both internal and external stakeholders.

- Employee Performance Improvement: Pre- and post-training performance ratings.

- Retention Rate: Impact of training programs on employee retention.

- Time to Qualify: Monitor and escalate any trends out of standard.

Trainer and Qualifier Development

- Partner with plant leaders to identify and develop internal trainers and qualifiers through structured onboarding and coaching.

- Facilitate Train-the-Trainer sessions and ensure standardization of training delivery.

Training Process Sustainability

- Partner with subject-matter experts to maintain and improve training documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and training plans.

- Ensure consistent execution of training processes across shifts and departments.

- Conduct audits to verify training compliance and process adherence.

Skills Proficiency Matrix Management

- Update and maintain the skills proficiency matrix to accurately reflect employee training status and capabilities.

- Collaborating with supervisors and team leads to validate skill assessments and identify training gaps.

Training Records and Systems

- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of training activities in the Intelex and any applicable Learning Management System (LMS) or other tracking tools.

- Maintain employee training files and certifications in accordance with regulatory and company standards.

Continuous Improvement

- Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve training effectiveness and operational performance.

- Support onboarding and cross-training programs to enhance workforce flexibility.

Skills required

Requirements:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish considered an asset
  • Bachelor's degree in education, Human Resources, Industrial Engineering, or related field is preferred
  • Relevant certifications or training development credentials are considered an asset
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial training environment
  • Experience working within a global manufacturing organization preferred
  • Strong knowledge of training systems, documentation, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Familiarity with Intelex or similar training management platforms.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies preferred
  • Ability to work strategically, aligning HR practices with business needs
  • Familiarity with compensation structures, employee benefits, and legal compliance
  • Good analytical skills
